Biography: Leonard F. Chalmers, son of the late Dock Chalmers and Pauline Pearson-Chalmers, was born on October 5, 1941 in Harnett County, Lillington, North Carolina and lived in Sanford, North Carolina (Lee county). He departed this life on Monday, February 24, 2020.
Leonard left Sanford, North Carolina and moved to New York (Harlem). He reunited with his friend originally from Sanford, North Carolina and then from Newark, New Jersey, Barbara Reaves, and married her on October 20, 1967.
Leonard had three children and eventually moved to the Bronx. While living in New York, Leonard became a master barber and served his community well. Leonard was a member of the Mason’s Brotherhood from the age of 18 until he encountered his medical condition in his early 60’s.
Leonard loved to travel to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. He also loved to fish. He had a great sense of humor and was an excellent service provider, at times giving free haircuts.
Leonard is survived by his: three children: Darrell, Leonard Jr. (wife-Laverne) and Torry Chalmers; brother, Lermond Chalmers (wife-Cynthia); sisters: Luvenia Jones, Mary Eunice Cameron (husband-Harold Morrell Cameron), Esther Lucas, Irene Murchison (husband-Dwight Sr.) and Mabel Sanders (husband-Joe Sr.); grandchildren: Mone, Leonard III, Briana, Torry Jr., Janay, Sierra, D’mitri, Daelen, Devin and Brandon; great-grandchildren; Kaydn, Leonard IV; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by; his parents Dock and Pauline Chalmers, his wife Barbara Chalmers, his brothers Doctor Chalmers Jr., Grant Chalmers, Thurman Chalmers, and his granddaughter Destiny Faith Chalmers.
