Biography: Grant Edward Swanson was born at Sydenham Hospital on March 28, 1958 to the late Pauline and Edward Swanson. He was preceded in death by his sister Sarah Dean and his brother Howard Gober.
Grant grew up in Grant Houses and received his education from New York City Public School System. He attended P.S. 125, JHS 43 and Louis D. Brandies High School.
Grant was known to all his friends as “Swany.” Grant enjoyed playing basketball, he played for Stone Gym, Riverside Church and JHS 43. Grants hobbies were singing old school music and watching TV.
Grant became ill in his early twenties with a severe case of Ulcerated Colitis and Crohn’s disease and suffered severe pain for the duration of his life.
Grant departed this life on January 30, 2018 at NY Presbyterian Hospital in lower Manhattan, from his illnesses and dementia.
Grant leaves to mourn his sisters Ruby Lillian of Marietta, Ga, Atlee Swanson of New York his daughter Sherena Williams, and her mother Debbie Williams, his great nephew Alvin Nelson IV, his great niece Anatastia Vasquez-Nelson, Dolores Rodgers and family, Debra and Marie Swanson, Gober family, Harshaws Clement, Hill family of New York and Marietta Georgia. Patricia Thompson and family, N.Y. Shirley and Saundra Vaughn Swanson of N.Y. and the Lucas Family.
Grant also leaves behind to mourn a host of friends from Grant Houses, Manhattanville, Douglas Projects, Convent Avenue, St. Nicholas Avenue, and Harlem.
