Biography: Dorothy Janette Crump, to some although only a few known as “Dot”, the eldest child of Naomi Crump-Jordan was born on January 6, 1943 in Blythewood, SC.
During the early to mid 1940’s her mother migrated her to New York City where she was educated in the public-school system. She later attended Medgar Evers College and transferred to the College of New Rochelle where she attained her Bachelor of Arts degree. She continued her education and earned her master’s degree.
Dorothy started her career in the 1970’s at the New York Phone Company as a telephone operator. In October 1981 she started working for the U.S. government at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a secretary. Over the years she moved up and became an investigator for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (E.E.O.C.) where she retired from in the mid-2000’s.
Dorothy loved the Lord and became a member of Solomon Temple Baptist Church on October 8, 1973.
She loved and was proud of more than words can ever say, but she tried to express through photos, her son Derek and daughter Samantha. She was also a loving, nurturing and remarkable grandmother. Like her mother and grandmother, she was a lover of “soap operas”. Her favorites being “All My Children” and “General Hospital”. If you knew her then you knew not to call her between 3pm and 4pm.
Dorothy left her home in Bronx, NY to go to her eternal home with her Lord and Savior whom she loved, on Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Suffern, NY, after fighting a good fight for many years.
Our mom leaves two loving and devoted children; Derek Jennings, Bronx, NY and Samantha Crump, New Windsor, NY; one brother Steven Jordan, Harlem, NY; four grandchildren; Charles (CJ) Crump, Christopher Milton, Briana Milton and Brittney Milton all of New Windsor, NY; and a host of family and friends.
We will always love and miss her and will forever carry her in our hearts and memories.
