Biography: Mamie was born in Scotland Neck, NC on April 28, 1927 she accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mary’s Chapel, the family’s ancestral , also in Scotland Neck, NC.
When she was a teenager the family decided to move to to start a new life. There, she attended Wadleigh . She joined Shiloh Baptist , under the late Rev. L. C. Wainwright and remained a member when Rev. Calvin G. Sampson took over the ministry. She became a member of the Willing Working Group and the Seasoned Citizens Group. Her favorite ministry was Sunday .
She found love when she met Birdell and married him. They were life partners until he passed in October 1987. She worked for National for 27 years as a Data Entry and 10 years at District 65 as a Medical Claims Coder.
She leaves to morn two sons: Ray and Herb; one daughter-in-law, Adriane; one sister, Mavis Daughetry; three brothers: William, Kenny and Owen; two sisters-in-law, Mary and Bethel (unfortunately, she passed recently); one goddaughter, Olivier Nesmith and adopted sister and brother, Catherine Stuart and Lewis Stokes and a host of nephews and nieces.
Mamie was known as “Ma ” to many of her friends and she really thought she was their mother at times. She will be sorely missed.
Ma wanted a simple service with family and friends around her, but the COVID-19 pandemic made that impossible. So, please, use your imagination. Imagine and feel her sense of peace as she said good-bye to this world.
