Biography: Ms. Cora Howard was born on October 18, 1928 in Jarvisburg North Carolina to Mattie Bowser and Charles Wiscott. When Cora became of age, she like many Africans Americans moved up to South Hampton, Long Island where she was educated seeking a better life and new opportunities.
In the 1940's Cora married the late George Howard in Virginia. From that Union 3 beautiful girls were born Sheila and a set of twins Gaynell and Gwendolyn. Challenged with being a single parent Cora had the help of raising her daughters by her mother Ms. Mattie Bowser. Cora worked hard and effortlessly as a dental assistant raising her three daughters. Upon moving to New York, Cora met and married Sidney Wiltshire of New York City and bore two sons, Dwight and Sidney Wiltshire.
Cora accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a late age. It was in the 1990's at The Shiloh Baptist Church in the village of Harlem, Cora gave the Reverend Dr. Calvin G Sampson her hand and God her heart. It was under his tutelage, that Cora became an active member of the Senior Ushers Ministry.
Cora had a spiritual gift of giving. She generously opened her home and her heart to many. She was warm and inviting to all that knew her. Cora was active, young spirited at heart and she loved to be around young children, youth and people who shared her youthful sentiment.
Cora will always be known for loving and eating of dessert and ice cream, her wit and sense of humor, her smile but most of all her fashion sense! She was a fashionista before there was a fashionista. Cora was the epitome of style, grace and elegance. She carried herself with dignity and grace and always presented herself as a strong lady. Besides her children and loving life, Cora's greatest moment was being able to vote and see Barack Obama become the first black president, not for one term but for two terms and coming out of the Jim Crow Movement, seeing the Civil Rights Movement, Cora can say "Yes We Can!
Cora is preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband and siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory: Five children; Sheila Renee Howard Saunders and her husband Lloyd Saunders of Brooklyn, New York of whom she affectionately called her boyfriend, Gaynell Howard of Florida; Gwendolyn Howard of Florida; Dwight Wiltshire and Sidney Wiltshire Bronx, New York. Three Grandchildren: Demetria Brown (Virginia), Edwin Myers (New Jersey), Anthony Howard (Florida). Six Great Grandchildren: Andrew Jones, Shymeeka Bodrick, Marcus Myers, Sanyah Renee Myers, Gregory Bodrick and Kira Myers. Two Great Great Grandchildren: Kingston Potts and Selene Bridges. Sisters in law: Sarah Seymour and Pearline Davis. In addition Cora leaves to cherish her memory her adopted family Jean Wollen (sister) and Jennifer and Eric Wollen. Cora leaves to cherish a memory her two adopted daughters Pearl Niles and Sandy Robinson. Cora also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
