Biography: God saw you getting weary, he put his arms around you and whispered, “come with me my child” and with tearful eyes we watched and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, with your tender hands at rest. God called Rose Cannady home to glory on May 5th, 2021 on her 88th birthday.
Rosa Nell “Rose” Norman was born on May 5th, 1933 in Tarry town, Georgia to the late Carrie Norman and Duncan Robinson, making her the youngest of seven. Rose was educated in the Valdosta, Georgia public school system
graduating from Dasher Elementary School as well as Dasher High School.
In her late teenage years, Rose migrated to New York City, settling in Harlem, NY. Rose had a great work ethic and began working for the United States Postal Service as well as CBS until her retirement age. In her early twenties, Rose married her late husband Augusta (Gus) Cannady Sr. they had four children- Joyce, Augusta Jr., Elaine, and Beverly. Rose and Gus decided to separate and as time went on, Rose met and fell in love with Clarence “Bobby” McKay during her time serving as a member of the Eastern Star. The two were blessed with a daughter, Carolyn McKay.
Rose turned her life over to God and joined New Mount Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Edward Satchell. As a member, she joined the Senior Choir and served on the Missionary Board until his passing. Her faith then led her to join Mount Neboh Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr.
Richard Watkins and continued her membership with Rev. Dr. Johnnie M. Green Sr.
Rose volunteered with the NYC Dept. of Aging, serving seniors and giving back in her community. She loved giving bus rides and raising funds for the community and church.
In recent months, Rose’s health began to decline, but she was always steadfast with her faith and would join worship service online on Sunday to hear Pastor Johnnie M. Green Sr. when her health would permit.
Proceeding Rose in death is her daughter Joyce Cannady-Barnes (IN), husband Augusta Cannady (IN), and Clarence McKay (NYC), siblings Vergie Lee Thompkins (FL), Lovie Lee Waters (GA), Lillie Bell Norman (NYC), George Norman (NYC), Ruth Norman (PA).
Rose leaves to cherish good memories to carry on the legacy with her sister Valley Mae Norman (NYC), children Augusta Cannady Jr., wife Pamela Cannady (IN), Elaine Jones, husband Ralph Jones (SC), Beverly Wright, husband Anthony Wright (NYC), and Carolyn Mckay (NYC). Grandchildren Tawanna Cannady, Tony Ballah (Marjorie Ballah), Lynette Jackson ( Ramel Jackson) Robert Cannady, (Keisha Cannady), Dimitri Cannady, Augusta Cannady III, (Jody Cannady) Keshawna Posley, Anthony Wright Jr., Latoya DeJesus (Alexis DeJesus), Latricia Cannady, Taquanta Cannady, Shalaine Sumpter-Ogunbiyi (John Ogunbiyi) Katima Lighty, Carlton Cannady, Dontay Jones, Devinique Lighty and Trey Jones. She also leaves behind, thirty- seven great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces- Josie Waters (FL), Ophelia Waters (GA), Debra Oglesby (GA) nephews- Arthur Thompkins (FL) Thomas Oglesby (GA) and her favorite cousin Minister Willie Mae Taylor along with a host of loving friends.
