Biography: Vincent Rafael Hassell arrived in the USA March 1, 1958. “Whoopie” as he was known to everyone, spent his first 13 years of life growing up on the island of Aruba before arriving in New York.
He graduated from Charles Evan Hughes High School. Vincent proudly served in the Unites States Airforce. Afterwards he went to work as an Electrician and was part of Local 3 Electricians Union in New York City.
“Whoopie” was a free spirit and was a kind man that spoke to everyone he came across. He could remember numbers and dates with such accuracy … he could recall the dates and times of historical events with such accuracy. He remembered all family members’ birthdays, from the youngest to the oldest. Rafael loved to just walk around his neighborhood in Washington Heights or the Bronx and just socialize with everyone he came in contact with. All the store workers knew him by name and personality. He had several nicknames he would go by.
He is survived by his Sister Barbara, Brother Errol, Brother-in-law Carl, three nephews: Deron, Carl and Errol Jr., one niece Charissa, and a host of great nieces and nephews, and many many relatives in Aruba and abroad.
