Henry Lamar Haws was born to the late Henry Haws Jr. and Harriet Dash-Haws-Aiken on December 27, 1967 in New York City. He entered eternal rest on Friday, December 24, 2021, at Westchester Medical Center.
Lamar, Lamont or Monte as he was affectionately known growing up in Harlem, went to P.S 180 M and Holy Name Catholic School. He was known in school for his big personality, numerous talents, and academic excellence. Lamar later attended La Salle Academy where he graduated from high school in 1985.
In 1978 Lamar accepted the lord as his savior and joined Greater Emmanuel Baptist church under the leadership of Dr. T.T Gooden Jr. Lamar was a very active member in his church, he was never one to miss weekly bible study. While at Emmanuel he joined the Jubilee Jr and became a junior Deacon. Also, he was the president of the T.T memorial choir and a member of the hospitality committee.
After high school Lamar worked various jobs until 1997, he then became a N.Y Transit worker (city bus driver). He later started a successful business collecting rocks and gems from all over the U.S. During his time, he’s taught people from all over world and helped introduced the rock hounding industry to people of color.
Lamar was united in marriage to Christine Hill- Haws, from this union they were blessed with 4 children: Christian, Courtney, Michael, and Madison. He adored his children and truly enjoyed being a father and husband. His legacy will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
Lamar’s memory is survived by his devoted wife Christine Haws, children:
Christian (Christopher) Goodwyn, Courtney Haws, Michael Haws and Madison Haws. Mother Harriet Dash-Haws-Aiken. Sisters Veronica Beasley and Saundra (Almo) Haws-Morris. Grandchild Naomi Goodwyn. Aunts: Josie M. Burke, Julia Gunn, Deborah (Bernard) Stewart, Lois (Charles) Black, Gloria Moody, Millette (Chris) Hartwell. Grandaunt Lucy Mae Spacy and Mary Walker. Uncles: Lee (Polly) Haws, Tony (Veronica) Haws, Moses Haws, Willie (Eloise) Dash.
Nephews: Teddrick Beasley, Kevin Morris and Kristopher Morris. Nieces: Lastarr Morris, Jasmine Morris, Kristina Morris, Ladisha Beasley and Sheena. God sisters: Alberta Darby, Charlene Hotton, Jerica Hampton, Kathy Pondexter and Lisa Jones God Brothers: David Shivers and Nathaniel Davis. God Son Tyrece Daby. Childhood friends, Jeffrey Thompson, John Valinotti, and Jean Pryor; and a host of grand nieces, nephews and cousins.
