Gloria Sullivan

04-04-1933 - 12-28-2021

Gloria L. Hill Sullivan; daughter to the late Hamilton Lindsay and Julia Worlds Jones was born in Savannah, Georgia on April 4, 1933. She came to New York at the age of 7. She grew up in the Bronx where she attended PS23, JHS 60 and she never missed a day of Morris High School where she graduated from in 1952.
At an early age in 1941 Gloria walked through the doors of Greater Central Baptist church in Harlem under the leadership of Rev C.R. Walker. While attending the church as a child she was a member of the junior usher board, attended Sunday school and remained an active and faithful member for over 80 years. Gloria enjoyed attending church weekly and if you were there, you knew where to find her because she sat in the same pew every Sunday. In 2013 she received an award acknowledging her years of dedication to Greater Central Baptist church where she also made sure her children and grandchildren attended.
On March 26, 1955, she united in holy matrimony with her high school sweetheart James Hill Sr. this union was blessed with five children. During that time, she received her childcare certification and became a blessing to so many families at Soundale Day Care center and helped raise many children in the Soundview and Lafayette section of the Bronx.
In her spare time, she also worked for the board of elections for 20 years. She also loved traveling with her friends and family. On July 10, 1971, she was married to James Sullivan Jr. and he helped raise her children and grandchildren.
Gloria was committed to helping others. As a result of her pleasant spirit, generous personality, sassy style and contagious smile she was loved by many. She was a pillar in the community known affectionately as “Ms. Gloria, Aunt Gloria, Ms. Hill or Grams' and her influence will forever remain in the hearts of those that knew her well.
God called her home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Albert Einstein hospital in the Bronx, New York. A sweet, generous, thoughtful and kind lady. She was classy, intelligent, loving and always wore a smile on her beautiful face. She never failed to share a word of encouragement or a life lesson to a willing listener. She always remembered Kent and my birthday with a card. I loved her. I will miss her and never forget her. ♡♡♡

My condolences to the family. I offer our condolences on behalf of Fellowship Covenant Church food pantry. She has blessed our food pantry over the years with donations of food that could then be given out to the community and bless their household. I never had the honor of meeting this great lady that touched so many hearts but I know from what I read and how she blessed our food pantry at Fellowship Covenant Church she was and is one of God's true angels. Be strong family and hold on to God's unchanging hand.
