Curtis Joseph Freeman, Sr. was born in Manhattan, New York on August 10, 1954 to Clifford Freeman, Sr. and Evelyn James Freeman. Curtis was the sixth of six children, nicknamed “Curt”.Curtis attended Haaren High School located in Midtown Manhattan, New York. He then met Barbara “Balla” Simpson and from that union came their daughter Shawana Tyhessia Simpson-Miller. Curtis and Barbara separated many years later. He then moved to Long Island, New York where he met Beverly Embry and from that union came son Kurtis Joseph Freeman, Jr. Many years later, they separated. Curtis was still living in Hempstead Long Island, New York where he met and married Tonette Henderson Freeman in 1980. Then had two sons, stepson Andre Henderson and in 1981 son Michael Lance Henderson Freeman was born. Curtis divorced many years later.
His career and passion was carpentry even though he was skilled in all areas of general construction. He enjoyed doing odd jobs and helping people who were going through hard times. Curtis enjoyed and loved his sports and playing lottery amongst men’s fashion. Curtis was a handsome man who was loved by all. Curtis was preceded by his parents, the late Clifford Freeman, Sr. and Evelyn James Freeman; three sibling: Clifford Freeman, Sr., Charles Freeman Sr. and Cheryl Freeman; and his stepson, Andre Henderson. Curtis moved between New York City and Long Island, New York then returned to New York City ten years ago. He resided with his brother Carl Freeman at the time of his death which took place on October 5, 2021, due to health complications. He will be forever missed, but we know he’s in a better place. He no longer has sickness and pain.
Curtis is survived by his devoted family: Sister Cynthia Freeman-Boothe and her husband, Dennis Boothe, Sr.; brother Carl Freeman; Daughter Shawana Tyhessia Simpson-Miller and her husband Graig Miller; Sons: Kurtis Joseph and Michael Lance; six grandchildren: Janai Cheri, Parris De Andre, Alexandra Patricia, Leila Janis, Neveah Janai and Michael Andre; four great-grandchildren: Lee, Aleyah, Zion and LeeAnna. As well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and loved ones.
