Thank you for attending this funeral service for our beloved Edith Ross. She passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at approximately 5:30pm at Harlem Hospital. She was 86 years old. Born October 12, 1935, in Harlem, NY, she was the fourth of nine children (Alexander Jr., Walter, Harold, Edward, Dorothy, Clarence, Eleanor, and Arthur). Her parents Alexander and Neather Hertzog migrated to New York from Orangeburg, South Carolina in the late 1920s.
After graduating from Junior Richardson High School in New York in 1954, Edith worked as a Nurse Ward at New York Polyclinic Medical School and Hospital for approximately 20 years. On August 24, 1958, she married Louis Ross, a waiter for over 40 years until his death in 2002. Although Edith did not have any children of her own, she was very caring and close to her many nieces and nephews. An example of her caring nature, she helped raise her niece Edith Gethers with her mother. Edith, also known as “Auntie” was a very direct and loving person who never hesitated to speak her mind. Most people would feel uncomfortable when interacting with her because she was always frank and direct. She will speak her mind freely. However, her wit, her forwardness, and her loving nature show that she loved and cared for others. Also, she loved music and loved to laugh.
Edith is survived by her younger sister and brother Eleanor and Clarence; her nieces Edith, Nicole, Elissa, Brenda, Joanne, Alexandra, Tamara, Josephine and Teslinda (Sukie); her nephews Eric, Kenneth, Gregory, Charles, Richard, Matthew, Jimmy, and Stephen; her great nieces, her great nephews, and a host of close friends.
Auntie will be joined in heaven by her husband Louis; her loving parents Alexander and Neather; her siblings Alexander Jr., Walter, Harold, Edward, Dorothy, and Arthur; her nieces Martha, Lena, and Zebrina; and her nephew Carl.
May her beautiful soul rest in peace. We will miss you Auntie!!
