The Life of Mrs. Dorothy Lee Duffie
Mrs. Dorothy Lee Adams Duffie, wife of Wallace Duffie of Manhattan, New York and daughter of the late Alma and Ray Adams. Dorothy was preceded in death by siblings: Arthur Adams, Jay Von Adams, Emma Phillips, Shirley Gray, and Willie Mae Jeter. Dot was born July 13, 1939 and entered eternal rest Sunday, February 20, 2022 at Mt Sinai Hospital 1176 5th Avenue, New York, New York.
Dot attended the public schools of Chesterfield County, South Carolina. She left her hometown, Pageland, South Carolina in her late teens seeking better opportunities like so many other African-American southerners who migrated north. New York was her destination and she lived with her paternal uncle, Billy Adams and his wife, Myrtle until she was able to find work and employment. Dot became employed as a dietician at Harlem Hospital for a number of years. Dorothy crossed paths with a handsome gentleman, Wallace Duffie and they soon became wed, and for many years until her passing.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory her husband Wallace Duffie of the home 215 W. 147th St. Apt.1C New York, New York, sisters Idell Robinson of Jamaica, New York, Angel “Red” Jeter; one brother Linzie Adams of Charlotte, North Carolina, two sisters-in-law Betty Adams of Charlotte, North Carolina and Ophelia Jones of Indian Trail, North Carolina; a goddaughter Nikki Wallace of New York, New York; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, sister, auntie, and friend. She was dedicated to working the polls during state and local elections and volunteered her time to help her community. We remember her as a lady with her own style of fashion, amazing sense of humor, and the delicious meals that were ever so satisfying. Our “Dot” will forever live in our hearts and memories. No more sickness or pain, she has been set free from the troubles of this world.
