Martha Granthe – Dedicated Pastor. Loving Wife. Caring Mother. Sweet Grandmother. Affectionate Great Grandmother. And Supportive Friend was born in Port au Prince, Haiti to her loving parents Joseph Borelli and Telecide Verdieu on July 31, 1933. She was the only surviving child.
Martha attended school in Port au Prince and became a prominent entrepreneur in her home country. She later came to New York and resided in the Upper West side of Manhattan where she lived for over 50 years. She was married to her loving husband, Pierre and was the loving mother of 5 beautiful children.
She was ordained by His Grace the Honorable Archbishop Eraldo Clarke as a Pastor and went on to open a large church in Port au Prince, Haiti, called, “La Maison de Priere.” She traveled back and forth to Haiti as both a missionary and a Pastor. She was blessed by God to have the gift of healing and loved to pray for all who were sick, possessed or shut-in. She went to various hospitals to pray for all those in pain and suffering, as well as those sick in their own homes.
Martha was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and devoted her entire life to God and His precious work. She was a Preacher, Pastor, Worship Leader, Prayer Warrior, Bible Study teacher, and missionary. She enjoyed feeding the hungry and clothing the poor. She visited jail institutions and counseled inmates about God and righteous living.
Martha touched the lives of thousands of people and will be deeply missed. She leaves behind her family which consists of her grieving husband, Pierre; her 5 children - Clara, Clifford, Jean, Alix and Marie, her 10 grandchildren – Nadege, Lionel, Gloria, Rachelle, Rebecca, Jonathan, Marleo, Samuel, Justin and Jordan; her 2 great grandchildren – Gianna and Graeson, and numerous friends.
She was a woman of unwavering faith and everyone around her could attest to the power of God in her life. She trusted her Savior, Jesus Christ, in every aspect of her life and the Lord has never failed her. Even when nonbelievers are at a crossroad and don’t know what to do they would say: “ I am calling on the God of Martha.” This is the legacy that Our Martha is leaving to us today : An unwavering faith in Jehova, the Almighty God of Abraham, Jacob, Moses and David.
Although her sudden departure is extremely sad and heartbreaking, her legacy still lives on and her sweet, loving, caring spirit continues to live on in each and every one of us. We will forever love and miss her! She was beautiful both inside and out! The best mom ever! Her offspring will always be grateful to God for her and call her blessed! May our mom forever Rest in Peace in God’s loving arms!
