Biography: Lonnie Mae Pinckney Obituary Lonnie Mae Pointer Pinckney was born to Lonny Pointer and Mary Clayborn in Holly Springs, Marshall County, Mississippi, October 22, 1919. She was the second of three daughters, the fourth born of 6 children. She was 102 years old when she passed away, July 21, 2022. Lonnie attended elementary school in Holy Springs where she learned to read and write. The family moved to NYC in 1933 where she attended and finished high School. In 1952, she married Henry Arthur Pinckney, became a housewife, and later worked in real estate managing her own properties to let. Lonnie had no children of her own yet she had many children in her life, her nieces and nephews. The children of her sister Clara and her younger brother Rayford were beneficiaries of her giving and caring spirit. She held many jobs growing up. During the younger years she did farm work on a Mississippi plantation. In her teen years through her twenties she worked in the Roosevelt depression recovery program, Civilian Conservation Corp., (CCC) in NY. During ww2 she did factory work. Aunt Lonnie’s religious faith was strong. She was a Baptist and a member of the Greater Central Baptist Church. While active in the church she was twice director of the church nurse program and received many red cross training certifications and many commendations for her service. Her hobbies were traveling and reading her bible. Lonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 5 siblings: James, one un-named stillborn brother, Evilee, Clara, Rayford Pointer, nephew Charles Strachan, and niece Yvonne Gatlin. A strong commitment to her faith gave her the strength to preserver through many years of life, calling upon all her physical and mental being, to care for and hold together, her family. She got her strength from her mother and the church, and it made her a rock to family and friends alike. She will be sorely missed by, and leaves to cherish her memory, her loving nieces: Mary Simmons of Gainesville, FL; and Darnelle Strachan of Manhattan, NYC, NY; her nephews: James Strachan of Governors Island, NYC, NY; Michael Strachan of Manhattan, NYC, NY; Eric Strachan of Manhattan, NYC, NY; Rayford Pointer of Brownsville, TX; Ronald Pointer of Corpus Christi, TX; many grand nieces and grand nephews, and many dear friends.
