Mildred Martin, affectionately known as Toog, was born on March 20, 1940 in Smoaks, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Willie Jenkins, Sr. and Mamie Z Jenkins. Mildred was called to her eternal home on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Pruitt Health, Orangeburg SC following an extended illness.
She was a graduate of Richard Carrol High School in Bamberg, South Carolina. She was an active member of Lovely Hill Baptist Church, Smoaks South Carolina, where she served as the president of the young adult choir. Two of her favorite songs were, All of my help comes from the Lord and Leaning on Jesus. Mildred was also a member of a gospel group called the Gospellettes, which consisted of her Sisters and Cousins. She was employed by Fairmont in Branchville, South Carolina and later relocated to Ambler Industries, Orangeburg, SC for several years until her job ended. Mildred loved to travel and go shopping with her nieces until her health failed.
Mildred was united in holy matrimony to the late James Martin, Sr. and to this union three children were born, James Martin Jr, Kenneth Martin & one preceded her in death, Tracy Martin.
One sister preceded her in death, Shirley R. Byrd.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories to her sons, James Martin Jr, of the home; Kenneth Martin, Savannah, GA; three grandchildren Joe Patrick Simpson, Branchville SC; Sophia Johnson Savannah GA; and Tyreke Martin Savannah Ga; 11 great
grandchildren, one sister Minister Melvina Abraham, Branchville, SC; two brothers Rev W.D (Orabell) Jenkins, Branchville, SC; Robert (Carolyn) Jenkins, Harrisburg PA; One Sister in law, Frankie L Jones, Bronx NY and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
