Willie Thrower

04-26-1978 - 12-05-2022

Biography:

Willie Jermell Thrower was born on April 26, 1978 to Willie H. Thrower Jr. and Pamela Hall in the Bronx, New York. He was the only child of his beloved parents.

Willie, often called Jermell, Mel or Mellie attended school in the Bronx and growing up always had a fun, and playful spirit. He had a love for music, with rap and hip hop being his favorite as it was directly connected to his Bronx upbringing. From a young age, Jermell had an inseparable bond with his cousin Chermain and his love for basketball flourished.

As an adult, Jermell continued to have the same playful positive spirit and it was evident through all his interactions. During the summers, Jermell would often spend time in the park or his neighborhood enjoying his surroundings. He loved the outdoors. Jermell’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving because it encompassed two of his favorite things: family and food.

Jermell was always very helpful to his immediate family and friends. He often accompanied his Aunt Demaris (lovingly called Aunt Dee-Dee) to doctor appointments and helped his cousin Tanya by babysitting. Jermell will always be remembered for his huge bright smile, his contagious laughter, his big heart and his genuine warm spirit. Jermell was a true example of being positive regardless of circumstances. Jermell departed this life sudden and unexpectedly on December 5, 2022. At such a young age, it is truly a heartbreaking and devastating loss as the rest of the world didn’t have the opportunity to know him and see the light he brought into every room he entered.

Willie Jermell Thrower will dearly be missed and is survived by a host of relatives and friends: four aunts, Charlene Miller, Gail Huggins, Demaris Reid, Thomasina Hall, three uncles, Clavertis Miller, Stephen Huggins,Cornelius Reid, seven cousins, Stephen Huggins Jr., Chermain Richardson, Derrick Huggins, Tanya Reid, Malcolm Huggins, Tiffany Reid and Troy Reid, one son, Mekhiah and one daughter Jade.

Lovingly Submitted,
The Family

“Jermell was known for his big smile and joking around, so don’t put your head down, this isn’t saying goodbye, just look in the sky and wave hi, and give him back one of his great big smiles.”
— Chermain Richardson
