Jack David Abramson of Harlem, New York, passed away on February 18th, 2023. Born on February 5th, 1948 in Harlem Hospital, Jack was the son of the late Susie McCrimmon and Walter Abramson.
Jack attended All Saints Catholic School Through 8th grade. He went to Bishop DuBois Catholic High School and Graduated from Commerce High School. Never one to take the traditional route, Jack held down a series of jobs before going on to college. His passion for education kicked in a short time later with Jack attending Borough of Manhattan Community College, then to Hunter College where he received his Bachelors Degree. His thirst for knowledge unquenched, he went on to pursue and obtain a Masters Degree in Social Work from Hunter College. He also received many certificates in related areas. His beloved mother, Miss A, would tease him saying “When are you going to give your brain a rest”?!
Jack went on to become the Director of the Ice Hockey in Harlem Program, a Supervisor within the New York Postal system, a member of the Chauncey Hooper Board of Directors, Social Service Coordinator for The Wavecrest Management Team and a Social Worker for Emily’s Place.
He was a dedicated volunteer within his community and a mentor to many. Jack loved and was beloved by, everyone. He encouraged the youth and advocated for Seniors. Whether it was a medical question or a question about life, Jack was the go to guy. Those in need knew they could go to him for anything and Jack would find a way to help. Jack’s quick wit, sharp sense of style, compassion, wisdom and love for food, especially Domino’s Pizza and Chinese Food on 88th St., will be missed by those who were blessed to know him.
A gentle giant to family and friends, Jack was preceded in death by his Mother; Susie McCrimmon, Father; Walter Abramson, Half-sister; Rosalind Haigler-Alston, Half-brother; Cecil Haigler, and Niece; Deshawn Karron.
