Gwendolyn Henderson (Coney) was born on June 11, 1951, to the late Geneva Brown. Gwen was the eldest of six children. Gwen was raised by her grandmother the late Irene McNeil in Metter, Georgia who she loving called Mother. Gwen would often speak of the memories of her childhood with her grandmother, who she had great love and admiration for.
In her twenties, Gwen came to Harlem, New York to pursue a career as well as to reunite with her mother. For most of her career she worked for the telephone company now called Verizon. She started as a telephone operator and through the years she was promoted to varies positions. She was there until she retired. Throughout her career Gwen gain many friends because of her humor and straight forwardness. She treasured her friendships and would do anything to help those she cared about.
While in New York Gwen met her loving husband, Albert Henderson. They were married on June 1, 1973, recently celebrating 50 loving and beautiful years together. Some of the things Albert and Gwen would like to do is take walks in the rain. Albert often referred to her as "The best thing out of Georgia". She was also the proud mother of two daughters. Azizi J. and Montogomery. Her two girls were her pride and Joy. Gwen wasn't just known for her blonde hair or stylish walking cane. She was also known for loving to watch her action movies and listening to music. Gwen had a strong personality. She also had a strong will and a determined spirit that was displayed throughout her many years of bouts of illness.
She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband": Albert, her daughter: Azizi and Montogomery; her sisters Margaret, Dorothy and Beverly and her brother Joseph. She is also survived by aunts, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and friends
