Reflection of Life
“For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2
A TIME TO BE BORN
Oliver Shivers Jr, also affectionately known as “Brother” the son of the late Oliver Shivers Sr., and Blondell Randolph-Shivers was born on November 8, 1935 in Lincoln Hospital Bronx, New York.
A TIME TO LIVE AND SERVE
Oliver attended Maritime Vocational High School in Manhattan, New York. He worked at RCA/General Electric Company for over thirty years and moved on to be a leasing agent at Esplanade Gardens Inc., where he retired in December 2000. Oliver had no shame in telling anyone and everyone he was a “Mama’s Boy”. There was nothing that he would not do for his mother. He believed in the unity of family and was always willing to support in any way he could.
Oliver joined Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in 1959 and remained a faithful servant until God called him home. He served as an effective church clerk for over 40 years. He was a faithful member of JW Tate Gospel Chorus for over 50 years where he served as President.
Oliver served in the following capacities:
Layman’s Auxiliary Missionary Baptist Association of New York City vicinity Inc., as President Emeritus, Recording Secretary and Historian.
Layman’s Auxiliary Empire Baptist Missionary State Convention New York State Inc., as recording Secretary and Historian. He was crowned King three times.
Layman’s Auxiliary National Baptist Convention United States of America Inc., as a committee member.
